I was finally able to sit down and watch the entire first episode of Diet Tribe yesterday. I love the show!
In a lot of ways, it's much better than the Biggest Loser. For starters, the ladies are all friends and they're all there to support each other. No teams, no one getting booted off, etc. I'm sure there will still be drama. After all, it is five women. Doesn't matter if they're BFF or not, there's bound to be a little bit of the d-word.
The goals are also much more realistic. Each woman is trying to lose 30 pounds in 90 days. They range in weight from 210 pounds to 296 pounds. The goals are so much more realistic and more likely to inspire people at home. People who aren't taken out of their daily lives and put on a ranch where they're not surrounded by fatty foods . . . people who don't have a trainer in their face 24/7.
And, of course, the only reward when it's all said and done is weighing less and being healthier. No money. So you know they're in this for the right reason and not going after the money.
Also, the trainer -- Jessie Pavelka -- he's pretty effin' hot. There's a video of him talking about the first episode here.
The women also meet with a psychiatrist for group therapy. I like that the counselor is a former fat girl herself. However, she mentioned that she lost -- I believe it was 60 pounds. On TV she looks like she might way around a buck thirty. So she probably actually weighs in at 120 pounds. Meaning a loss of 60, would put her at 180 at her highest weight. I'm sure seeing as all the women on the show were at least 200 pounds, they probably wanted to throttle the heffer when she said she lost 60 pounds. ;)
All in all, it was a really good show. In the first three weeks, the weight losses ranged from five to eleven pounds. Much more reasonable than the 30+ as seen on the Biggest Loser this week.
It comes on Monday nights 9:00 central on Lifetime. I definitely recommend it!
